Speciality Clinics and Programs
The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic (VHC) provides the following specialty services:
Specialty Care
The Clinic conducts a Dermatology clinic on the 3rd Wednesday evening of the month beginning at 6pm. VHC patients can call us to make an appointment or be added to the waitlist.
VHC is fortunate to have other specialists available at the Clinic during our evening clinics. These include Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nutrition Counseling and Rheumatology. VHC patients can call us at 512-459-6002 and press 0 to find out when these specialty services are available and how to obtain an appointment or be placed on the waitlist.
Mental / Behavioral Health
The Clinic can assist patients suffering from mild depression and/or anxiety. Psychiatry services and medication management are available by appointment. Generally, patients will be referred for these services through our Tuesday/Thursday evening clinics. Please note that the Clinic cannot provide prescriptions for controlled substances.
Nutrition Counseling
Existing patients who are at risk for diabetes, hypertension and/or overweight are offered appointments with a dietitian. During these one-on-one consultations, patients are given healthy eating habits, diet suggestions and follow-up appointments.
Pediatric Care
Acute primary care for children who are sick is available during our Tuesday/Thursday evening clinics year-round.
In August, VHC conducts a special 'Healthy Kids Day', which is an action-packed day geared at getting kids ready to go back to school. Well-child exams and sports physicals are provided during this annual Saturday morning clinic. Parents of VHC pediatric patients can call VHC beginning in July to be added to the waitlist for this clinic.
Physical Therapy
The Clinic provides limited Physical Therapy (PT) that includes a stretching and exercise program that focuses on non-prescription remedies for pain. Individuals can access these services once they become a patient of the Clinic. Patients will need to be referred for PT services through our Tuesday/Thursday evening clinics. Physical therapy is generally available on a weekly basis on Wednesday afternoons.
Pharmacy & Lab
The Clinic has a state-licensed, Class A Pharmacy that carries common generic medications that are prescribed to established VHC patients by VHC providers. The Clinic does not carry, dispense or write prescriptions for controlled medications.
The Clinic also has an on-site laboratory to perform routine testing that is ordered by VHC providers. Lab draws are done on-site at VHC and sent over to Ascension/Seton Hospital to be processed. All lab reports will be reviewed by a VHC provider before they are added to a patient's medical chart.
Please note that patients will only be called about lab results if there is some type of follow up required and/or they need to return to the Clinic. Patients wanting to find out lab results can call VHC at 512-459-6002, press 0 and set up a Nurse Callback, which can take a couple of days after the results are reviewed.
Social Service Referrals
Additional resources for other health and human services and/or community/ basic needs organizations are available as needed. VHC staff and volunteers are able to answer any questions and there is a community resource bulletin board in the waiting room. Patients can also call 211 for a resource listing line of services available in Central Texas.
Women's Health
The Clinic conducts two 'Well Woman' Clinics during the spring and fall each year during which pap smears, breast exams, mammogram screenings and common screenings are available. These services are only available during these special clinics twice a year.
Services Not Available
The Clinic provides a wide range of services and takes care of many common health problems, however we do not have the ability to care for all health needs. VHC is not an emergency room or urgent care facility and we are not able to care for seriously ill patients.
The following is a general list of services we cannot accommodate at the Clinic.
If we cannot help you here, we will try to direct you to other clinics or facilities who have the resources for your medical needs.
