Speciality Clinics and Programs

The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic (VHC) provides the following speciality services:

Specialty Care
The Clinic conducts a Specialty Clinic featuring dermatology, psychiatry and nutrition counseling on the 3rd Wednesday evening of the month beginning at 6pm.  You can call us to make an appointment; dermatology is also available on a walk-in basis.

VHC is fortunate to have other specialists available at the Clinic during our Walk-In clinics on Tuesday/Thursday evenings. These include allergy, cardiology, gastroenterology, rheumatology,  internal medicine. Please call to find out when these specialty services are available.

Twice a year, the Clinic conducts a Well Woman Day that provides important health screenings for women including pap smears, breast exams, mammogram referrals, and cholesterol and glucose testing.  These services are only available during these two special clinics in the Spring and Fall and you must be pre-scheduled.  Please call the Clinic to find out more details.

Mental / Behavioral Health
The Clinic can assist patients suffering from mild depression and/or anxiety. Psychiatry services and medication management are available by appointment.   The Clinic cannot provide prescriptions for controlled substances.  Generally, you will be referred for these services through our Tuesday/Thursday walk-in clinics.

Limited Physical Therapy
The Clinic provides a stretching and exercise program that focuses on non-prescription remedies for pain. Individuals can access these services once they become a patient of the Clinic.

Children's Sports Physicals and Well-Child Exams (Seasonal)
The Clinic conducts a daytime Pediatric Clinic twice a month during the summer between June and August.  Appointments for sports physicals and well-child exams are available as well as acute/primary care for general medical problems. Patients must be pre-scheduled and can call us at 512-459-6002 to make an appointment.

Pharmacy & Lab
The Clinic maintains a Class A Pharmacy that carries common generic medications available to VHC patients. The Clinic does not carry, dispense or write prescriptions for controlled medications.

The Clinic also has an on-site laboratory to perform routine testing that is ordered by our Physicians and Practitioners.

Social Service Referrals
If you should need resources for other health and human service providers and basic needs organizations, the Clinic has information available and staff and volunteers able to answer any questions. You may also email Silvia Nunez-Reyes, Program Director, for assistance at snunez@volclinic.org.

Nutrition Counseling
Existing patients who are at risk for diabetes, hypertension and/or overweight are offered appointments with a dietitian. During these one-on-one consultations, patients are given healthy eating habits, diet suggestions and follow-up appointments.
