The Clinic has always been fortunate to receive donations from individuals and organizations that help off-set our daily operating costs. These donations can range from paper products to medications to furniture and every single one is greatly appreciated. Recently, the Clinic was the lucky recipient of some wonderful donations and would like to sincerely thank:
Margaret Bickley – for checking out our Clinic ‘Wish List’ and donating money to purchase an office laminator. Our new laminator works beautifully and our signs have never looked more professional. If it were feasible, we would have laminated this newsletter!
Kirby Lester, LLC - for the donation of a pill counter for our pharmacy. This is a major enhancement for the pharmacy and will expedite the filling of prescriptions, particularly during our Chronic Disease Management Clinics. Even better, it makes our wonderful volunteer pharmacists and pharmacy techs very happy. Special thanks to Muriel Blumstein of Kirby Lester and VHC Board Member Allen Busch, RPH, for making this happen.
Covance - particularly Dr. David Carter, Amy Nelson and Marcus Stavchansky for thinking of the Clinic when their office was closing and inviting us to come and "shop" for free. Through their generosity, the Clinic received 4 new matching exam tables, rolling stools, tables, a microscope and virtually a waiting room full of office and medical supplies – so much in fact that VHC was able to share the wealth. We donated our existing exam tables and replaced items, along with all the excess supplies, to another an up-and-coming charity clinic in Round Rock.
Thanks for these wonderful donations - and to everyone reading this - for helping out the Clinic in your own special way!
Here’s another quick & easy & painless way to support VHC: Do you grocery shop at Randalls? Ask them to tie your Remarkable Card to VHC’s Good Neighbor Number: 1311. Thereafter, a percentage of your grocery bill will automatically go to the Clinic!
Healthy Living
We hear a lot about a healthy lifestyle, but what exactly is it? We know that living healthy isn’t all about weight loss, but about exercise and making small, long lasting changes that improve the quality of our lives and longevity. Here at the Clinic, we have implemented the “Healthy Living” program aimed towards educating at risk patients during our Tuesday & Thursday night clinics. During clinic nights, our triage nurses talk with patients on a one-on-one basis, making patients aware of their nutritional needs, body mass index and different health concepts such as portion distortion. Patients are given a personalized “Healthy Living” handout with the day’s date, their current health profile (blood pressure, height, weight and BMI) and goals towards improving their health. Patients are educated on the concept of BMI (Body Mass Index), the benefits of weight loss, tips for a healthier lifestyle and the handout features a tasty yet budget friendly, low-calorie recipe. This last quarter’s handout featured healthy tips such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, reducing salt intake and replacing flour with corn tortillas. What steps can you take to become healthier?
